Tote Alternatives started after noticing how many people were searching for replacements to a favorite tote brand that closed, discontinued a style, or simply cost more than they wanted to spend, and coming up empty handed. We built the site we wished existed.
A lot of product comparison content online is written from a spec sheet, without anyone actually loading the bag, carrying it to the car, or setting it down full on a kitchen counter. That gap is exactly where most of the frustrating, wrong sized, wrong shaped purchases happen.
We started Tote Alternatives to close that gap for one specific, oddly underserved category: totes, utility bags, and the organizers built around them. Every comparison on this site starts from a real question someone is actually searching for, usually because a bag they loved is no longer easy to buy, and works backward from there to find something that genuinely fits the shape, size, and job of the original.
We are not affiliated with Thirty-One, Bogg Bag, Hulken, LL Bean, or any other brand referenced on this site. Every comparison is written independently, based on our own research and hands on use.
We are not a brand's official retailer, a manufacturer, or a consultant network. We do not accept payment from brands to be featured, and inclusion on a comparison page is never for sale.
Every brand alternatives page follows the same three step process before anything gets published.
We study the specific size, material, and structure of the bag people are searching for an alternative to, not just the brand name.
Structured base, interior pockets, closure type, and strap adjustability matter more to daily use than color or logo, so that is what we weigh first.
Where an alternative falls short of the original, we say so directly rather than glossing over it to close a sale.
Brand inclusion on a comparison page is not for sale, and a product's presence here reflects our own research rather than a paid placement.
We disclose our participation in the Amazon Associates Program clearly, on every page, rather than burying it in fine print. Details are in our affiliate disclosure.
Products, prices, and availability change. When a reader flags something out of date, we update the page rather than leaving it stale.
Tell us which bag you are trying to replace and we will add it to the research list.
