Start with the original

What makes the Camino hard to replace?

YETI sells Camino 20, 35 and 50 models. Its own FAQ calls the welded body waterproof at the sides and bottom, while explaining that rain can enter its open top. It uses a hook to contain large items, rather than a zip closure. A lookalike that merely feels rubbery may miss the welded seams or useful organization.

Wet groundThe bottom and sides matter. RTIC is the nearest design match among these picks.
Open loadingThe large opening is convenient for towels and boots; it exposes contents to rain and spills.
No insulationFor perishables, pick an insulated cooler and add cold sources.

If you already own a Camino and only dislike the size, compare the current 20, 35 and 50 before switching brands. Capacities are a starting point; a molded shape and opening width can make two similarly sized totes feel different.

Product photo: RTIC Ultra-Tough Tote, small 25L

RTIC Ultra-Tough Tote, small 25L

Welded construction, molded base, open tote

This is the first stop when the welded, hose-off design matters most. RTIC documents waterproof, puncture-resistant material, welded seams, an EVA molded bottom and small 25L capacity. The linked Amazon listing is the small size.

Tradeoff: The 25L small sits between Camino 20 and 35 by stated capacity. The brand also makes a 40L large size, but the link below is specifically for the small. Like Camino, the open top does not protect gear against water from above. Check the source details.

02 / Beach days with loose gear
Product photo: Original Bogg Bag, large

Original Bogg Bag, large

EVA body, upright shape, two inserts

Bogg’s original large bag offers the stand-up, wash-off convenience Camino shoppers often want. Its official dimensions are 19 by 9 by 14 inches, and the brand lists two clear insert bags for smaller items. The Amazon link points to a large version.

Tradeoff: The EVA body and perforated sides make this a beach or pool organizer, not a welded water-holding tote. The holes and open top leave contents exposed. Check the source details.

03 / Molded tote with a small-item pocket
Product photo: Simple Modern Getaway, medium

Simple Modern Getaway, medium

EVA body, stable base, detachable zipper pocket

A useful Bogg-style alternative when you want a shaped, wipeable bag and a removable water-resistant zip pouch for keys. This Amazon page identifies the medium Almond Birch version. Simple Modern offers other sizes, but check the selected size on the listing.

Tradeoff: The pouch protects only what you put inside it. The main bag is open and is not equivalent to a sealed dry bag or an insulated cooler. Check the source details.

04 / Big open tote that stores easily
Product photo: SCOUT Original Deano, large

SCOUT Original Deano, large

Wipeable woven fabric, folds flat, interior zip pocket

The Deano keeps the large-mouth loading of a Camino but trades the molded bottom for lighter, pack-flat construction. SCOUT identifies its all-weather woven fabric as water resistant and wipeable. The linked Aqua La Vista listing specifies a 19 by 15 by 10-inch shape.

Tradeoff: Water resistant fabric is not a waterproof welded tub. Choose the RTIC if setting the bottom in standing water is essential. Check the source details.

05 / Trunk, market and gear sorting
Product photo: Extra-large wire-frame utility tote

Extra-large wire-frame utility tote

Wide wire-framed opening, collapsible body

A practical way to keep the mouth open for groceries, towels or supplies without paying for a heavy-duty welded shell. The listed frame holds the top wide while the flexible body can fold for storage.

Tradeoff: This is a utility hauler, not a boat bag. Its fabric and seams should not be assumed to hold water or protect electronics from rain. Check the source details.

Lands’ End Open Canvas Tote, five pockets

Cotton canvas, several pockets, open top

If you use a Camino as a general carryall, a pocketed canvas tote is a sensible change of material. The indexed listing describes five pockets, including a snap pocket; it can keep bottles, keys and small items apart without added organizers.

Tradeoff: Cotton canvas absorbs water. It cannot replace a welded bottom on a wet boat or muddy campsite. Confirm selected size and handle length in the listing. Check the source details.

07 / Sandy towels and wet beach gear

GOTDYA extra-large mesh beach bag

Mesh body, zip top, outer pockets

Mesh lets sand fall through and damp towels breathe, solving a different problem from Camino’s washable tub. The listed extra-large bag is approximately 24 by 8.7 by 18 inches and includes exterior pockets and an interior zip pocket.

Tradeoff: Open mesh does not keep rain out or contain water. A zippered top can reduce spills, but do not treat it as a waterproof seal. Check the source details.

08 / Food and drinks that need cooling

Hydro Flask Carryout soft cooler tote, 20L

Insulated 20L compartment, zip closure

Camino is an uninsulated cargo tote. If you were considering it for perishables, choose an actual soft cooler instead. Hydro Flask lists a 20L Carryout cooler tote with a wide opening; verify the selected color and model on Amazon.

Tradeoff: A cooler is heavier and less convenient for wet boots or bulky gear. Add sufficient cold sources and follow food-safety timing guidance. Check the source details.

The claims that matter

Waterproof, water resistant and insulated are different jobs

Waterproof body: YETI’s welded Camino and RTIC’s welded Ultra-Tough have bottoms designed for a wet surface. Both are open at the top, so neither protects a phone or camera from a downpour. A water-resistant fabric tote such as SCOUT may shrug off a splash but does not make the same welded-base claim.

Washable EVA: Bogg and Simple Modern are easy to clean, but their main compartments are open. Bogg’s side holes also let sand and water move through. An interior zipper pouch is useful for keys, though its presence does not make the whole tote waterproof.

Cold food: The Hydro Flask cooler serves a different purpose. The USDA recommends an insulated bag and at least two cold sources for perishable bag lunches. A wet-proof shell alone does not chill food.

Do not let the capacity number decide for you

The published liter counts help shortlist a size, but test the real object you carry: a rolled yoga mat, a pair of boots or a rectangular lunch container can be awkward in a bag with the “right” liters. For heavy loads over a long walk, swap shoulders or consider a backpack. A published study comparing shoulder, front and handheld bag loads found measurable posture changes under its test conditions; it does not establish a universal safe tote weight.

Quick answers

YETI Camino alternatives FAQ

What is the closest alternative to the YETI Camino?

The RTIC Ultra-Tough Tote is the closest on the features discussed here: welded seams, a molded base and a washable outdoor shell. The linked Amazon listing is the 25L small.

Is the YETI Camino completely waterproof?

Its welded body resists water through the bottom and sides. It has an open top, so water can enter from above. It is not a sealed dry bag.

Is a Camino insulated like a cooler?

No. It is a gear tote. Choose an insulated cooler for food and drinks that must stay cold, with appropriate ice sources.

Which alternative stands upright?

RTIC has a molded base, while the Original Bogg and Simple Modern Getaway have molded EVA bodies. The wire-frame utility tote holds its mouth open but has a softer body.

Which alternative is easiest to store?

The SCOUT Original Deano and the wire-frame utility tote are better suited to compact storage than rigid EVA totes. Check the wire-frame listing for its folding instructions.

Can I carry a laptop in these?

A cotton or woven daily tote may work if your device fits, but an open top exposes it to rain. Use a protective sleeve and check interior dimensions; a waterproof body alone does not shield the opening.

Can I use the RTIC large instead of the Camino 35?

RTIC lists its large Ultra-Tough at 40L, near the Camino 35 by nominal capacity. The recommended Amazon link here is the 25L small, so use the direct RTIC large link in the size graphic if you want that model.
